As someone who has long been passionate about driving innovation and promoting diversity in the tech industry, attending the 6th Annual Black Is Tech Conference in Houston, Texas, from August 19–21, 2024, was an inspiring and transformative experience. Held at the Hilton Americas, this year’s event showcased the growing potential of Black professionals in tech and highlighted the critical importance of fostering an inclusive ecosystem that empowers underrepresented voices.
A Platform for Celebrating Diversity
The Black Is Tech Conference served as an essential platform for celebrating diversity within the tech sector. At its core, the event aimed to dismantle stereotypes about Black professionals and showcased the significant contributions they are making to innovation across various industries.
Houston, a city rapidly evolving as a major tech hub, is home to one of the most diverse populations in the United States. The Black Is Tech Conference highlighted how embracing this diversity can drive creative thinking and technological advancements. As speakers shared their personal journeys and experiences, the event emphasized that diversity in tech isn’t just an ethical imperative—it’s an innovation strategy. By fostering an inclusive environment, companies can harness varied perspectives to develop groundbreaking solutions that cater to a broader audience.

Speaking to Lipaworld CEO Jonathan Katende on the importance of diversity, this is what he had to say:
